New California Title 20 Requirements for Emergency Lighting Products
Effective January 1, 2017, California has enacted energy efficiency requirements for battery charger systems (including battery backup and uninterruptible power supplies – Section 1605.3 (W)(4)), which covers all emergency lighting sub-categories with batteries. These include emergency lighting fixtures, emergency ballast and drivers, and AC Inverter Systems. (Exit signs were covered under a previous regulation and are compliant.)
The new requirements for these products specify a maximum power consumption while in maintenance mode. To meet the requirements, new charger assemblies are being designed and will be announced and implemented over the first half of 2017.
Until then, since the effectivity date is based on the date of manufacturer, dedicated inventory of select products that represent 98% of annual shipments into California is moving into place until the end of December 2016. This inventory is dedicated for orders placed after January 1, 2017 to ensure compliance when shipping into CA. All the catalog #s of compliant products now include a T20C option and the full list is included on the attached page as well as AcuityBrand.com under products, indoor, Emergency/Exit.
Power Sentry® emergency ballasts and drivers have ample inventories to continue shipping into CA without the T20C designation until further notice. All other emergency lighting products not on the attached list will be restricted from shipping into CA after 1/1/17.
